What is Civil Engineering?

Civil engineering is a broad field of engineering that deals with the planning, construction, and maintenance of fixed structures as they related to earth, water, or civilization and their processes. Most civil engineering today deals with roads, structures, water supply, sewer, flood control, or traffic.

About Department

The Department of Civil Engineering has been established in the College since the year 2009 - 2010 with an annual intake of 60 students. In tune with the growing demand profile globally for CIVIL, the intake level was enhanced to 120 from this academic year 2012. Since inception, the Department of Civil Engineering has been imparting knowledge in 'General Engineering Concepts' and 'Studies' in 'Civil Engineering'. With the concurrent acquisition of technical skills in labs, inspiration and awakening of the young minds by vibrant teachers, the students are engaged intellectually, in the college. These critical contributions lead the students to explore and discover the wonders of their minds, which in turn synergize together and enable the students transform themselves to become true engineers and technologists.

Irrespective of their branch of study for specialization, students are guided in the first year to explore new ideas through original thinking and discover new layers of knowledge and abilities, in Mathematics, Sciences and in Engineering and Technology. With character, dedication, brilliance, effectiveness and enthusiasm, they become capable and also analytical in their approach and transform themselves as Engineering Professionals of the future, with ethics.

Beyond these basics, study of Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Solid Mechanics, Environmental Engineering and Sciences being relevant for Civil Engineering and Technology, are taught in the First Year, Second Year, Third Year and in Final Year of study with a focus as per syllabus of JNTU Kakinada.

Vision

To be the premier provider of practice oriented engineering education at undergraduate levels, in order to achieve a successful carrier in academic, research or industrial fields, by providing them with technical background thereby ensuring individual and societal empowerment.

Mission

  1. To empower students and faculty as value added engineers with broad and through education in civil engineering, fundamentals and application, so that they are capable of facing the technical and social challenges and providing human services which are sustainable and ensures environmental health
  2. To undertake collaborative projects which offer opportunities for long-term interaction with academic and industry.
  3. OUR FUTURE PLANS

    1. To start a course in M.Tech. Civil Engineering and take up consultancy work.
    2. To make critical and specific contributions and realize the objectives of the department and in turn of the Institution, as an Institution of eminence and repute at the University level.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

  1. To solve civil engineering problems in different scenarios there by making them successful in engineering practice or in other fields they choose pursue.
  2. To achieve expertise in design and analysis of various civil engineering structures.
  3. To generate engineering designs that are based on sound principles which considers functionality, aesthetics, safety, cost effectiveness and sustainability.
  4. To function ethically in professional civil engineering roles and exhibit good competency in their work culture

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES (POs)

  1. Engineers will practice the profession of engineering using a systems perspective and analyze, design, develop, optimize and implement engineering solutions and work productively as engineers, including supportive and leadership roles on multidisciplinary teams.
  2. Continue their education in leading graduate programs in engineering and interdisciplinary areas to emerge as researchers, experts, educators and entrepreneurs and recognize the need for, an ability to engage in continuing professional development and life-long learning.
  3. Engineers, guided by the principal of sustainable development and global interconnectedness, will understand how engineering projects affect society and the environment.
  4. Promote Design, Research, and Implementation of products and services in the field of Engineering through strong communication and Entrepreneurial Skills.

Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Lab

About Lab

The lab is established to enhance the understanding of the concepts of fluid mechanics through practical exposure. The laboratory is fully equipped to perform a large variety of experiments, ranging from the flow experiments to more applied experiments such as the performance characteristics of all types of pumps and turbines.

About Lab

The practical sessions are conducted in this lab for Mechanical Engineering students. The lab helps the students to enhance the knowledge about the mechanical properties and behavior of Engineering Materials. This lab is equipped with Universal Testing Machine, Tensile Testing Machine, Hardness Tester and Deflection Testing Machine.
